The re-touch is a controlled shot used to keep the ball short over the table when somebody has played a short touch to you. This shot is used as an alternative to the long push and the aim is to keep the ball tight and short over the table to force your opponent into a weaker shot or giving you an opportunity to attack. It can be tempting when your opponent has played a short ball to return the ball with a long push or flick, but against strong attacking players this can sometimes put you under pressure. So the re-touch is a useful weapon to restrict other players attacking strengths and give you more chances to play the first attack.
