trouble-keeping-the-score
Hi, Dan. Hi, Tom. Hi, Academy Members.
When playing matches, I find it really hard to concentrate on my game AND keep the score at the same time. As a result, I keep forgetting the score and usually rely on my opponent to keep track of it, and that is not always a good idea.
I wonder if you happen to know any specific tricks or techniques that can help me remember the score during matches.
Thanks.
Hi Shirokuma,
Yes this can be something that throws players off and makes them lose focus often.
Its difficult because everyone is individual and finds their own way to manage to keep score as well as concentration on the game. I think the best way is just trying to practice keeping score in training and practice matches as much as you can. When in matches say the score out loud which will re-in-force it in your head as well.
There aren’t really any clever techniques to this other than practice I think, but remembering who’s serve it is and how many serves they have had can help because then you will at least know the margin of points and weather it is an odd or even score in terms if numbers.
Keep up the practice!
Thank you, Tom. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my question.
I just want to say something here: I hope you realize that you and Dan have done and continue to do something truly amazing for us table tennis players who practice this beautiful sport. I love your videos! I really do. I’m already using many of the shot techniques and useful tips from your instructional videos, and I can feel that my game has seriously improved as a result.
Keep up the great work!
Regards, Dean
