Coach CornerTechniquesBackhand topspin when out of position
Sweetiele asked 6 years ago

Hi,
I find it difficult to topspin the ball from my backhand when I am out of position and a bit away from the table. Can you please tell me how to improve this?
Thanks

Hey Sweetiele,

There are a few important things to try to do when playing this shot, when away from the table with your backhand its easy to get off balance which can cause mistakes. So try to stay low woth your knees bent and also get your body behind the ball. When away from the table its also best to start of by going for extra spin and safety to your shots and give margin over the net before going for too much speed. We will make a video on this topic shortly for you.

But for now a great drill is starting away from the table and practing your backhand topspin but gradually move closer to the table and then away again with the opponent blocking. This helps you to adjust to different positions and distances from the table better.

Keep an eye out for our backhand away from the table video soon as well! 🙂
