Answer for Help in improving forehand top spin against backspin

Hi Neil, just got your email about it being unlisted and it worked, so I’ve just had a look at the video now!

So there’s a couple of main things which I think will make a difference to your shot and get it improving. First is you are slightly to square to the table, so bring your right foot back a touch. This will allow you to use a lot more rotation and weight transfer because currently you are having to use mostly the arm to generate the speed in the shot.

I like you how you drop the bat and contact the ball, your not going for too much power and focused on spin which is key. What I would say is be careful at the end of each shot to not lift up your body or lean to the side too much, try to use the legs to bend a touch lower on the backswing.

The final small thing to focus on is using a bit more snap and whip from the elbow and forearm. This will really help the acceleration in the shot, focus on getting the bat moving quickly through the contact point.

Overall not bad technique at all, with a few tweaks as mentioned im sure you’ll see improvements!

Hope that’s helpful and anything else or if your unsure on anything, of course feel free to reply on here.
