Hi rchang723, I can understand this point of view because of course as you get older you slow down and reactions aren’t quite the same as when younger. In modern era and especially now with the plastic balls, its very difficult to play only defending and be successful so I think developing an overall defensive game but with an attack on the forehand is the best way to go. Even Hou Yingchao uses a forehand topspin attack to pressure his opposition.
As you say if you can chop well it slows the gane down and gives you more time to set up an attack or forece mistakes from your opponents. What I would say is that although it slows the game down it still requires good fitness and movement to play this style. But it’s enjoyable to play and also a lot of players find this style hard to play against so its definitely worth thinking about. Hope that helps and any other questions feel free to reply back here.
