Normally I am an all out attacker, but recently in the past month I realized I’m not attacking in matches, most of the time I am just blocking around the table. When I try to attack I miss or I just think I will miss this next shot. I feel like this is to do with lack of confidence and was wondering if there are any drills I can use to improve consistency and overall confidence when Attacking?

Hi Reece, yes I can understand this and it’s definitely frustrating in matches. We recently released a video which shows a simole drill which helps keep control on your attacking shots and improve consistency. You can view it here:

Also I would suggest focusing on a drill wherw your topspin to your partners backhand block and they can block you anywhere in the table, start at a controlled speed and build up. Getting good at this wull really help your recovery and anticipation in games which allows you to be in the right position more often to attack and not block.

Lastly I would say try to focus on being relaxed as it sounds to me like you are just going through a patch of low confidence which can make you tense when going for attacking shots. Im sure you’ll get back to your attacking game so believe in yourself abd keeo working hard. Feel free to send us in a video of you playing and we’ll analyse it for you.
