service-grip
Hi Tom and Dan. Do you think it’s necessary to just use thumb and forefinger to get good bat speed? I don’t feel comfortable doing that. I recently have been working on a modified Tomahawk where I don’t bend down much but stay low and hold the bat very loosely until contact and then tighten slightly at contact for control. I’m getting good spin and pace and I am using the same loose and tighten on pendulum to good success. Thumb & fore remind me of uncomfortable tennis grips. Thanks.
Hey Slicepong, I don’t think it is needed to be honest especially when you don’t feel comfortable with it. If you are getting good spin and pace already that’s great. The way you are talking about can be very effective by having a loose grip and then tightening slightly at contact, this is more where the finger and thumb will help in the serve by gripping on the rubber and helping to stabilise the bat on contact.
The tomahawk serve can win you a lot of points when done well so worth carrying on training that, feel free to send us a video and we can have a look at the grip and action but it sounds like you are on the right track!
