Table Tennis Robot
xHi Tom and Dan I enjoyed listening to your latest video chats, where you discussed changes made over the years including, technique balls, scoring system to name but a few. The part where you discussed \’swivel or rotation\’ reminded me of a young lad I coached from primary school who later went on to win Scottish titles. In those days power was achieved from the legs, speed of rotation of the hips and follow through of the arm (not unlike present day technique. When I saw him again a number of years later he had changed to a faster rubber which enabled him to reduce his back swing dramatically when counter hitting. While the speed and spin he achieved was impressive I felt that some of the technique had been taken over by the type of bat and rubber…sign of the times! The reason for contacting you however, was to ask your advice. As I had to cancel our holiday my wife suggested I could use the funds to purchase a table tennis robot for practice and exercise. (My son is returning a table which I gave him a few years ago). I have since cleared the garage which gives me 15 x 9 feet of space. There is a slight slope but nothing major. I looked up Amazon where there was one for about £450 which assisted with various types of spin. I wondered if you had any idea where I could get a suitable robot at a reasonable price and also how easy it would be to assemble. If I could get this set up then I would be able to send you some video footage sooner rather than later without having to depend on going to the club (when it opens). I tried to include an image of the layout of the garage but couldn\’t seem to transfer the image to this article. I tried \’Insert link\’ but I was directed to \’Source\’ and I was not sure how to transfer from my MAC. Keep up the good work.. I look forward to seeing your videos. Alex
Hi Alex,
Glad you enjoyed our video chats, we have another one we have just released of myself and Dan discussing a few topics during lockdown.
Yes that would be great if you could get a robot for your table at home, I think the garage size should be no problem at all. There are a couple of places that sell robots and they do have some more reasonably priced ones, Bribar table tennis, table tennis direct and teesport are probably the best places to look in the UK. Not sure if they have them in stock at the moment as I know a while back during the lockdown they all sold out!
If not I’m sure there are other options on places like amazon as you mentioned, you don’t need to have anything too expensive or crazy as I think a simple one will work for most people just working on good technique and some basic movement stuff. Hope you manage to get hold of one!
