backhand-topspin-vs-backspin
Hi, could you please comment on my video, especially on the shots I’m missing? This is against max backspin my robot is capable of, but it isn’t very high. I used to try lifting with my elbow but after watching the video on TT Academy realised that it was a big mistake, so I’m focusing on the wrist now. Also, I wanted the follow through motion to be more in front and directed towards where I want the ball to go, i.e. more forwards, but then I catch the net immediately.
Hey, ok I feel there are some nice elements to your shot at the moment and a few things that will really help take it to the next level and cut out mistakes. The first thing I notice is your foot postion, your right foot is further forward than your left, so you need to bring that back to have your right foot behind, this is the biggest thing to change that will help to feel more natural. You want to have your left foot slightly in front and be facing into the opposite backhand corner more.
Also as you mentioned releasing the wrist forward and using it more in the shot, especially through the contact and pointing out where you want the ball to go. This help add spin and direction to the shots without forcing it. You have a really good drop of the bat and prepare for the shot well with a nice pause between the back swing and follow through which is great!
Just try to keep your arm a bit more relaxed which will help you accelerate easier into the shot, keep it nice and compact though as you have it now that area is good.
So feet is the most important area and this will make things easier for your body positioning and allow you to use your legs to help more as well. Let us know how you get on with that! 🙂
