Hey Alex, yes this can happen against pimples as they don’t generate the same amount of spin as a reverse rubber. When pushing against pimples you will need to change your bat angle so it’s not as flat and rather than going right under the ball which can make it pop up as you said. You will need to push slightly more through the back of the ball with a more angled bat which will keep the ball lower.
Also you can brush the ball a bit less against pimples again because of the lower amount of spin generated. Let us know how you get with it 🙂 Cheers, Tom
