Hi Tom. Thanks for that I think my thoughts were correct that I need to do little more with touch for better quality. I think it’s case of what is correct and better, rather than what looks good. It’s very easy to get carried away with what’s more visually attractive like wow did u see how short that was the ball stayed on table with back spin rather than seeing a ball bounce twice and then go off end. But in reality a better quality touch that causes indecision in opponent about length is far more effective than a touch that is obviously very short. So Thanku for that. Yesterday I also practice my Bh flick as that is I would say weak or less confident. I think it’s weak due to confidence and it’s less safe also my problem is trying to recover while playing the shot which is totally wrong. Same actually goes for touch I have at times been at fault of trying to recover before fully playing the shot.
What exercise or how would u conduct a flick or short touch training exercise if you were my coach in person?
yesterday I got my lad to serve in a particular area on my fh and I came in and short touched it. We did this for quite a while then moved onto Bh flicks where he served in a particular area and I flicked with control and spin. If had heavy backspin I came round side more otherwise over the top and I was very pleased with it.
I know in matches certain serves would b touch some u can flick and lengths would vary but for purpose of training would u do each individually how I did yesterday? If you could describe how u being a coach would conduct training for flick and touch if we were having 1:1 then I can follow that format.
cheers Deep
