Answer for how-to-attack-the-back-spin-push

Hi Darrell, yes this is actually a common thing that we find with players we coach. One of the key things is the mindset and preparing early to topspin, and that doesn’t have to be the first one but it can be setting yourself ready in your mind saying ok next one I’ll topspin and prepare early for it.

Working on using the legs and body well and keeping a relaxed arm so you can accelerate well is a good point to remember as well. Definitely have a look at our video here to: https://tabletennisdailyacademy.com/videos/table-tennis-hack-the-heavy-forehand-spin/

This goes into detail on getting more spin on your first attack rather than focusing on on speed which for you in this situation will be perfect. Obviously if you can practice this shot in training by getting a partner to push back, you can push the first one back and then you have to spin up the next one. Over time this shot will develop and you won’t feel so rushed into it.
