Answer for training-for-competition

Hi Deep,
Sound ike you had some good matches and a nice variety of players as well. So with the push to the middle I would suggest not rushing to loop it but if you have to push one then try to really focus on the feet and moving to get into position to play the spin up before rushing and playing too quick. In this situation consistency and control is key to stop his push in the middle winning points, then he’ll be forced to try different things. Also when pushing if you can find a wide angle it’s less likely he’ll be able to get you into the middle or the body, so do think about direction on your own pushes too and making them positive with early timing.
On the point about your forehand topspin, I would say its actually a good thing you can do both the faster open up and a slow spin one. It’s great to have a flexible shot which is adaptable and can deal with different types of shots. I think variety and keeping opponents guessing is always a good tactic and it makes you unpredictable. It just comes down to picking the right time for each shot. For example if the ball is low and a lot of spin then you’d go for a slower spin loop but if the push is weaker or less spin you can attack it a bit quicker with the more aggressive shot.
