adding-spin-to-the-forehand
Hi Guys
Sometime last year I sent a short video demonstrating my backhand topspin which involved opening the bat and bending my wrist to get under and over the ball with my elbow elevated. This worked well and earned me a lot of points in a match. I had a look at Liam’s masterclass on the forehand technique and decided to try the same technique (bending the wrist back) which opened the bat angle and then brushing over the top of the ball with a fast wrist action and short follow through using my legs and body rotation. The result surprised me in so far that that this produced a great deal more spin than I normally would produce and also (looking at the marks made by the balls on my bat), most of them were in the top third of the bat where before they appeared nearer the middle. 90% of the ball also landed between 5 to 10 inches from the edge of the opponents side of the table.
Whether I can duplicate this in the heat of a match remains to be seen but I think it is worth percevering with as it would definitely add more points to my game.
I look forward to seeing some more videos.
Best wishes
Alex
Hey Alex, yes I would say when we had Liam down this is something on my forehand I wasn’t really using either and it can really help with spin bit also being relaxed and placement of your shots.
It will take time to transfer in to matches as you said but the way to do this is really focus on it in training and work on developing this skill and using the wrist better. Yes we will have some new videos soon and of course let us know as always if you need any help or advice on this.
Dan 🙂
Thanks Dan
I will definitely be trying to incorporate this technique into my game for the new league starting and
let you know how I get on.
Regards
Alex
