Answer for 1-year-plan-to-improve

Hey Okoso! Alright so I’ve had a chance now to look at the videos you sent and come up with a plan for you to improve and the areas to focus on that will help you the most. To me it seems you have good strong fundamentals and basic shots which is really important but it’s more the random match play and serve/return areas that need the focus. You have good technique in your strokes when you are doing regular training drills and this gives you a good head start its’s now about getting these shots working well when you don’t know where the ball is going, especially in match play. What will help this is a lot of irregular training drills and match type exercises. So here is a structure of a training plan for you to follow and what areas to focus on in each time.

1-Year Table Tennis Improvement Plan:

Months 1-3: Foundational Training:

Evaluate strengths and weaknesses, so looking at where you actually win points and what you do well in match play and of course where you lose he most points and what shots are weak in match play. Then working on refining basic the weaknesses and also how to get your strengths into play more often. Of course we will be here for feedback and help on this area with certain weaknesses you might have.

Decision-Making Focus:

Drill quick decision-making in simulated match conditions
Practice adapting strategies based on opponent’s style

Months 4-6: Game Simulation and Adaptability:

Random Drills:

Improve reflexes with drills for unpredictable ball placement and pace, so the opponent can mix up the play and you don’t know where the ball is going. We have many drills you can use in this area on the training exercise area on the Academy. This will also help mental conditioning for focus and concentration

Match Simulations:

Practice with various opponents for real-game scenarios, trying to maintain composure and decision-making under pressure

Months 7-9: Tactical Training:

Opponent Analysis:

Study opponents’ styles and weaknesses through match footage
Develop personalized strategies and tactics with us on here

Adaptability Training:

Practice adapting strategies mid-game based on opponent behaviour
Develop alternative game plans for different situations

Months 10-12: Competitive Exposure and Feedback:

Tournament Participation:

Enter local tournaments for experience. Then analyse performance and adjust review match footage regularly to understand mistakes and weaknesses.

Throughout the Year:

Physical Conditioning:

Maintain a fitness regimen for stamina and agility , also include injury prevention exercises.
Consistent Practice:

Dedicate focused training time regularly
Balance structured drills and match play
Irregular and serve and return drills

Record Progress:

Keeping a training journal for tracking progress is a useful way to record everything. Even writing down how you felt in the training and matches. What was going well, what could still need work on it. This will help you see how you are getting on through the year. I hope this all makes sense and of course this is just a guideline you don’t have to follow every part exactly but it should help give you a plan and we can help you with each area, for exercises or which areas exactly to focus on or any other feedback you may need over the the year.
