Hey Dan, I think the answer to this is that table tennis is such an individual sport and every player has different preferences and likes different things in terms of equipment. I can definitely see what you mean in terms of the physics working much better but often people don’t take this type of thing into consideration and just go with what feels natural to them personally.
I use a Cybershape blade myself and can’t imagine going back to a traditional shape now as it feels so comfortable to me. But many people also find the Cybershape strange and would never use it. So I think it’s just a case of personal feeling more than anything.
