Coach CornerServe and ReceiveYips when serving
Patrick Kinsella asked 2 months ago

I quite often get the yips when I serve. When I do this, i just throw the ball as if it’s a tick into a place I can’t get bat on it. It’s a bit of an odd one but I think it’s potentially a ‘flight’ reaction. I wondered if you had any advice on that?

Hey Patrick, yeah I know what you mean and I actually think all players will go through this feeling at some point. A good way to avoid this and get out of it is actually experiment with some new serves and try some different things during this period to break the “pattern”. Also a good way is to take a deep breath and then breath out before serving and just focus on being really loose and relaxed and then having a good fast acceleration into the ball, this can help you feel more free when serving and help the throw as well.

I’m sure soon you’ll be able to get out of this habit when serving if you give these things a try. Let us know how you get on! Tom 🙂
