Hi Dan,
Firstly, I can see straight away that your forehand topspin and open up is going pretty well and you won most of your points when using that. The only things to be careful of are rushing this shot along with getting off balance as you hit the ball, thats the only times you made mistakes really with your forehand, otherwise it’s a good weapon!
A couple of the other things you mentioned like the long shots and bad first push I think can be fixed relatively easily. I feel in both cases this is because you tend to rush the shots slightly. Some of the balls you pushed may have even come long enough to topspin if you can wait and be nice and low to the table. When you do have to push it was usually the balls with very little spin that caused you trouble and they went off the end. Especially on these types of push try to keep a loose grip and soft touch on the ball, and try to imagine the feeling of the ball staying longer on the bat as you push under the ball, rather than it leaving quickly with a firm contact.
The other main area I think to focus on is recovery from your shots and your balance when moving around the table. If you can stay slightly more relaxed in your strokes and focus on a good backswing but short follow through that will help. When moving around especially to get your forehand into play, just make sure you’re keeping your left foot behind the right, occasionally after playing a really strong forehand, the way you finished the shot meant you could only play a backhand the bext ball.
overall I don’t think its nearly as bad as you think, and with some small changes and work on the areas I mentioned I think you’ll see some good improvements.
Anything other areas you’d like some tips on just let us know!
