Answer for Forehand technique

Hey Graham, I’ve just had a chance to watch the video you sent and have a look at your forehand. I think for only playing for around 1.5 years you’ve done really well to get to this point already! I think you’ve got a really solid foundation here to build from and it won’t take too long to get your forehand to the next level and keep improving.

So the main things for you I would say to focus on that will help you improve the shot quickly are: Using a bit more of the lower part of you arm and hinging a bit more from your elbow, this will help you generate a bit more spin and brush on the contact of the shot. I think what your doing with trying to add in the weight transfer is really good, the thing that will help you make this even more effective is really trying to focus on having a solid base and transferring the energy forward and staying low. Right now you have a good weight transfer but some of your energy gets lost upwards as you slightly lift up and go onto your tip toes slightly. If you can think about really using the energy and power from the ground and staying low through the shot you will get a lot more power from this weight transfer.
You are also doing really well at moving into position for each shot when the placement changes slight, which a lot of people don’t do well, so keep this up. Another thing that will really help the recovery and has helped me a lot in the past is really consciously thinking about bringing the bat back and recovering with a good backswing after each shot. That’s not to say your recovery is bad but I think this will help you be in position quicker and with slightly more backswing again get more power and spin.
I think for now these are the main areas I would focus on, but as I said you’ve got good foundations to build from and it won’t take long to get it to the next level! I hope that all makes sense and just let me know if you have any questions on it. cheers, Tom
