Answer for Match Analysis

Hey! I’ve just watched the video you sent into us. Firstly you’ve got very nice strong topspin attacks on not sides so that’s great to build your game around that! I would say just be careful not to rush on those topspin attacks and just be patient if the opponent does block a couple back and keep the pressure on them to avoid mistakes. When you got good quality spin over speed, especially on the first ball you won a lot of points.

One thing I noticed is you did quite a few long fast serves but your opponent often managed to attack them and get you under pressure. I would say for your game style mainly stick to short serves and try to force the opponents to push back, this will maximise the amount of times you can get the first topspin in. Of course you can use the occasional fast serve still for a surprise.

Another small area I noticed is that when you did make mistakes sometimes it was because you were a bit far away from the ball. So for example on pushes and flicks you need to step in closer under the table and keep your head and body low which will cut out mistakes. Overall I think your technique and game is very solid and these are all small areas to work on which will help you be even more consistent.

Especially on your forehand topspin, that shot is a real strength and I would aim to build your game around getting that shot into play. So doing footwork drills like 3 point forehand that we have on the website. Or other drills where you have to cover large areas of the table with your forehand. This will help you be ready to play it more often. I would also use the robot to practice this type of footwork too.

Lastly I would suggest doing some drills where the opponent serves short backspin, you have to step in and touch short, the opponent can then push long anywhere and you have to attack the first ball strong. If you can maximise this strength”it will benefit your game!
