Answer for match-analysis

Hi Tom thanks for the feedback. Just quick question what do you mean by my style? How would you describe my style?

what I have noticed is at times when I block I concentrate on just covering spin rather than also be positive with placement. I at times focus so much on the incoming spin that I get a block on but it’s in a easier place for them to attack next ball where I need to not only smother the spin but also make it difficult for them to attack next ball. Looking at video I got caught up in blocking too soft too often rather than being more aggressive with the block. Times when I blocked with either speed of placement brought a error from opponent.

in terms of recovery both after serve and shots I have identified and started to work on this week. Serve recovery I think it’s come from serve practice during lockdown where I focussed on spin and placement that I use to watch ball to see how good serve is and obviously didn’t practice the recovery so that’s crept into matches but that’s easily fixed with practice and reminding myself every time I serve in a match to recover.

going onto problem I have with recovery after shot and serve receives. This comes down to exposure to better training partners. At the club I’m in middle standard where academy boys have there sessions and are high standard and I train with others and they are lower standard than me so I don’t get exposure to very good spinny or tricky serves often. That’s biggest problem I’m having when playing competition or even British league the serves I’m having to deal with are a lot better than my training partners so how can I train without exposure? We have match nights on Wednesdays which I now go to where I can play practice matches against academy boys which gives me exposure but that’s just once a wk. Also on other days by time I train they have left so I can’t ask any of them to give me 10-15 mins serve receive practice.

I think with shot recovery it boils down to same partners don’t always block well during drills so it breaks down exercise and in practices matches recovery comes from balls coming back but at times I hit a good shot and win point so have got into habit of not revovering after a good shot as I win the point. Now playing competition and British league I’m playing higher level players where even after a good shot ball will come back to I have to practice somehow recovering after every shot during drill work.

it’s a big dilemma I have where the competitions and British league is higher standard than my daily training partners. To be honest I have played well regardless but it’s these small things that need addressing which can only come at practice sessions where it becomes automatic.
