Answer for Match Video Analysis

Hey Fabian,

I’ve read through what you said above and had a look at the video. I think you have a good idea of your playing style and your strengths and weaknesses which will help you improve more quickly. I also think you are pretty accurate with your analysis of the opponent Lewis as well. Your looping game is strong as you mentioned and if you can get that into play and get then opponent on the back foot and blocking you did well. Sometimes an area which stopped you being able to do this and let the opponent get his flat forehand in first was the return of serve. A few times you ended up reaching in for the short serve and the ball drifted a bit high and loose for him to attack. As you said the slippery floor probably didn’t help this area but I feel if you can step in close to the short balls and keep low on the forehand returns this will help you keep the ball lower and shorter and stop the opponent attacking as much.

I also think as your looping game is strong, sometimes there were half long serves that you could perhaps topspin but you ended up pushing. This just comes down to really looking out for every opportunity to topspin and get in first. As you said as well you are quite confident to counter attack at mid distance with your forehand and even sometimes backhand punch which was nice. I think if you can work on bringing in these shots whilst staying close to the table this would be very helpful for your game as the opponent will have a lot less time and be rushed into mistakes.

Just in the general rally play which was mostly pretty solid I would say just try to relax a bit, especially in your upper body, sometimes the mistakes came when you got a bit tense or tight. Overall though a lot of positive things in there and I feel with a bit of work on the stuff I mentioned here you can make some good improvements. If you have any questions on this let me know. Dan:)
