Hey Jimmy! So first off its great you are getting coaching from someone like Graeme. He’s a great guy and will definitely help you improve!
On the equipment that’s definitely the best bet if you can fit d something you are comfortable and settled with and stick to it, from experience this is key to improvement. So test a few combos and then try to set your mind on one, personally I love my Cybershape and DNA on both sides but everyone is different and the Franziska is also a great blade.
On the video I think you’re doing well and there are a few small things which I feel will help you develop. I notice sometimes on your forehand your timing gets a bit late and slightly behind you, so try to think about leaning forward and hitting the ball slightly out in front of you. This will help when generating power and placement of your shots.
I also think when you move around the court working on being very stable and balanced in your movements, this is something that not many ayers think about but can really help you in matches when you have to move and get caught out of position. So just working on forehand movement drills to get into position and stay low and stable.
With your backhand open up against backspin, I feel your technique is pretty good but you just need a bit more acceleration through the contact and really relaxing and brushing the wrist through the ball will help you get more quality on this shot. Overall I think you’ve got really good solid basics and it’s small details now that I’m sure Graeme is working on with you as well that will really help.
I’ve just listed a few things here and if you need specific advice on any areas of your game or shots just give me a shout.
Cheers, Tom
