Yes I can definitely understand this problem, I coach a few people who have been struggling with this. The best way to return these type of serves is to play with a relaxed feel abd aiming for a fair bit of topspin but also with a quick acceleration, and this is the key. Because these serves come at you quickly and into a arkward position often players don’t get enough speed through the ball causing the mistakes or weak returns.
Another thing to focus on is creating the space quickly, so if you decide to play forehand on this serve (Wich is usually best) then you need to get away from the ball by moving your right foot back which allows you the space to rotate and accelerate into the shot. It does take time to master this but really try to practice being brave on these returns and go for a quicker shot with a good brush and acceleration through the ball. Let us know how you get on!
