Hi Alex, we received your emails woth the video clip in it no problem. I had a look and a couple things I feel will really help you progress this serve. I agree with both the points you made above and they will definitely help if you can bring those into the serve.
I would also say in terms of the contact on the ball try to get the feeling that you are holding the ball on the bat longer, and really brushing across the ball with the rubber. If the ball leaves the bat too quickly there isn’t much dwell time to generate spin, so this is a key area. I also feelnthe wrist could be brought back slightly more in the beginning of the serve. To help both these areas and also get a more controlled action a good tip is to think of the serve as 2 parts, so firstly throwing the ball up, turning the body slightly back and drawing the wrist back ready to brush through. Then as the ball is at the highest point there is a fraction of a second pause before starting the second part which is turning forward and bringing the wrist through and bushing across the ball.
By thinking of 2 parts with a small pause in the middle we have found this helps a lot of people develop their serves. Regards, Dan
