Hey Dan
yes ping will be a lot of fun to watch. Will you be covering it or watching from home.
regarding the serves yes height is definitely key. I apologise I will have follow up questions as I feel my serves have got much stronger but there’s always room for improvement. As you say u have practiced a lot in the past, so following on, what visual do you look for in terms of serve practice? It’s very easy to get caught up practicing the side back spin pendulum and liking the ball curve and stay on the table really long with at times 3 bounces but obviously varying whether serve is really short or second bounce is near white line is very important. In terms of ball contact on a clock view where would you contact ball for say side back spin or side top spin?
I have seen all the serve videos on academy before asking these technical questions.
one thing I have seen in some Asian videos is they stated to keep served very short with back spin the contact should be close to bottom so near where rubber name is and for longer or top spin contact is higher up. I haven’t really tested this but they seem to say same with hook serve where contact lower on rubber keeps ball short with more back spin and higher is opposite. I’m guessing this is how they disguise spin with same motion. Are you aware of this technical disguise?
