Answer for slowing-down-in-matches

Hey! This is quite a common problem that players we coach have. The best way to practice this is to do lots of irregular drills in training so the ball place is random and you learn to make decisions faster and also to adapt to sudden changes like what happens during a game.

Also lots of serve and return drills to get you into decision making reading where the ball will go more often rather than set placement drills.

Another thing that can help is purely focusing on spin and consistency during matches, trying to force your opponent into mistakes rather than actually go to win the points will help work on cutting down mistakes and that feeling of rushing. Try to focus on spinning the first ball and then good placement, taking the speed of your shots right down.

This area does take time to improve but it will get better with irregular drills and plenty of match practice focusing on safety and control as I mentioned 🙂
