Hey Raino, a good way to stop players lobbing early on is to actually allow them the first attack and let them open up by pushing long to them, this way they are forced to make the play instead of you attacking them and they will drop back straight away. Also keeping the ball short and tight to the net is good because they have to move in close to the table and then you can play a quick attack before they have time to go back and get themselves ready with more time back from the table. So mixing it up between these 2 tactics I would say is your best option.
