Yes definitely agree on the returning serve point, there’s no point desperately trying to attack if your not in position or the ball isn’t right. It’s definitely good to try and still play positive for sure, and the more you get used to attacking the easier it becomes.
I would say the most common mistake is being too passive on those side spin serves and the shot is weak. If you spot the sidespin serve early, try to attack through the ball and close the bat angle just slightly and be positive. Also it sounds a bit stupid but aiming for the centre of the table when you return the sidespin means you can be confident it won’t spin off to the side 🙂
