Hey! Apologies of the delay getting back to you, I didn’t see it initially as it was at the bottom of this thread. It looks like your doing well and enjoying it with the new set up which is important.
I think you are exactly right about getting caught in no man’s land, so it will take some getting used to when you should stay close and block or get back from the table with enough space to play a good low chop. This obviously needs work and especially the footwork and speed to get into position.
Also I do agree that sometimes your forehand could have a bit more backswing. I think the overall length is fine but you should focus on getting the bat back before you hit the ball. Also try to keep yourself low and with your weight leaning more forward on your forehand, this will really help the control and stability.
Lastly one you mentioned as well is being on the balls of your feet and a bit more active in your lower body, I feel this will really help your movement and reaction to different ball placements.
