Coach CornerTacticsDealing with loopers

There’s a player in my club who no matter what shot you play to him he loops. He plays quite far from the table so I have been using the angles. He also likes flicking short balls, are there any tactics I can implement on these types of players?

Hey Reece, ok so the first thing against these types of players is to be comfortable blocking and controlling their loop shots, especially as you say if he goes back from the table it will be difficult for him to hit through you of your blocking game is solid. Then you are looking to block him into difficult areas like into the body or using the wide angles like you said. Usually these players arw much weaker if you force them in to the defensive and get in the first attack. You need to try and get in early and quick at the table and stop him getting into a looping rhythm where he has time away from the table.

So short serves and looking to topspin first and be positive and really trying to stay close and take away his time ?

Ok will try these. I also was wondering are there any specific serves that are difficult to attack because he almost always flicks them.

Definitely if you can serve short heavy backspin that is very difficult to flick, so if you can perfect that serve it will help. Also maybe try the occasional long fast surprise serve to keep him guessing

Ok I will practice these serves. Thanks
