par-gerell-hook-serve
Im currently practicing the top spin serve (not the long kicker serve). I have SpinSight and currently getting just over 50 on the top spin. It varies between just over 40 and a maximum of 56 so far. What is considered a good value for a top spin serve.
Hey Andrew, to be honest that’s a good amount of spin those numbers you are getting already. I wouldsay if you can get around the 50 mark consistently that’s very good. What’s most important is the disguise between your serves and keeping it low, of course spin is important as well but if the opponent knows exactly what spin is on the ball it becomes much less effective. So I would say work on mixing together this topspin serve you have been working on with the backspin version as well and trying to keep the same spin values. Let us know how you get on and if you have any other questions on these serves. Tom 🙂Â
Many thanks for your reply Tom, much appreciated. On further refinement of technique I’ve now achieved 67 as a maximum and averaging around 60 on the topspin. It’s just so useful to have Spinsight with the immediate feedback. I have started to do the backspin version and find this one much harder to actually get backspin. Currently getting around 24, but as you say if I get the disguise right it’s a big difference between topspin 60 and backspin 24. I will experiment a bit more to improve backspin and then also try to get these as short serves which is proving tricky to achieve consistently. Practice practice.
That’s very good! I definitely agree the direct feedback and info from Spinsight is very helpful in training for sure! Let us know if you have any further questions on this in the future
