Hey SDTTA, we have a great video that goes into detail on playing against long pips, in that we also have graphics showing and explaining what happens to the ball when hit with pips so definitely worth a watch of that!

The most important way to learn is understand what pips do to the ball and then play against them to get experience and confidence. Bear in mind that pips can’t generate anywhere near as much spin as a reverse rubber so they usually work with the spin you give them, so keep serves simple and be sure to not rush against them and be confident to push and keep the ball in play when you have to.

Thanks Coach Dan. Hope I can beat pip players at my club next time on our tournament. I am low-immediate rating player (840 rating at San Diego Table Tennis Associate). My target will be 1,000 by the end of this year, Please help.

It’s a great video to understand pip does. However, the pip players have 1 side pip (red or black) and 1 side regular rubber. They don’t use only pip side during the games.
One topspin and one under spin hits to against pip side only in your video. It’s a bit confusion when the pip players use both sides randomly and tactic using 1 topspin and 1 underspin shots cannot apply in this case.
Please advise. Thanks.
