Coach CornerEquipmentQuestion re: 2 different rubbers
Kevin Tang asked 1 year ago

So I have tried 2 rubbers, one is dignics 09c and the other is andro r45 (both on my forehand).
What I’m realizing is the dignics 09c seems to miss a lot, but I can also win a lot of points if I get in the right position and hit a great shot since there’s so much great spin to the ball once I can hit a good shot. The andro is much more consistent and keeps me in the rally, but it’s harder for me to hit winning shots if that makes sense since the power and spin aren’t quite as strong.
Now the question is, should I try to master the dignics? I think this might put me in the position to play a much better forehand long-term, but with short-term pain of losing a lot since I’m missing.
Or should I just continue with the the more consistent rubber (andro) and just improve my game with that one.
The other consideration I had was my serve seems to be spinnier with the dignics 09c as well.
I would love to get a pros thoughts, especially as someone who is trying to get better in the game, I would love to become an aggressive attacking player if that helps.

Hey Kevin, I think it’s a lot down to preference and feeling here because they are both very different rubbers. Dignics is much slower and a lot more spin were as the Andro r45 is faster and less grippy. Personally I prefer rubbers similar to the r45 as you can get away with more. With the dignics you have to be in a very good position and get the technique and acceleration through the ball right or mistakes can happen as you said.

I think long term there’s no reason you can’t play an aggressive attacking game with the Andro rubber and get good quality shots as well. I would say it really comes down to which rubber you prefer the overall feeling of and if you think the spin of the Dignics is a really big advantage to you when serving etc. But either way you can be successful with both just takes time adjusting and really sticking to one.
