Hi,
I am confused about how closed the racket face should be on lose balls to generate power? I feel that I can generate more power with an opened racket angle on contact and and then closing it while going through the ball. I feel that with this approach I can generate more power. However, I have seen that in your videos on how to generate more power you talk about how a closed racket angle can help you in generating more power.

Hey Sweetiele,

Yes I can understand your confusion on this topic and what is the best angle to have when trying to generate power.

The answer is, it really depends on each shot many factors including the speed of the ball, the height and the amount of spin on the ball coming to you. So the bat angle will be slightly different on each shot. For example a loose ball with topspin or sidespin on, when going for power it will be important to close the bat angle to stop the spin taking the ball off the end.

As you said you can probably generate more power by having a more open bat angle however this will mean your shot is flatter and with less spin, if the ball is pretty high or easy thats fine and you can get away with this and hit strong. But its important even when going for power to be able to put spin on the ball too, which means you avoid too many unforced errors.

So its about finding the balance of spin and power on each of these high balls you play 🙂
