Coach CornerMatch playreturning-different-ball-pace-during-rally

Hi Coaches,
Hope you guys are doing well. I have been struggling to adjust to different pace of the ball when my attack is being blocked by an opponent. I think Im comfortable when the block is more aggressive but when it slows down, seems like im having trouble on the timing. Sometimes I miss the ball entirely. Is there any specific training for this? Also, any mental preparation would be helpful. Thank you!

Cheers

Hi Derik, we are all good here thanks! Yes this does happen a lot on slower blocks woth players, best way to practice this is getting an opponent to block and really try to changevup the speed and put in slow blocks to allow you to practice waiting for the ball or moving in closer to attack stronger. Also multi ball is great for this as the feeder can control the speed more easily.

On the mental side you need to focus on taking your time and using the slow ball as an opportunity to play a stronger ball but not rushing into it. Lastly tru to make sire you keep your body low and forward on the slower balls as often they can make you lift up the body and this causes mistakes, so a good one to watch out for! 🙂
