Coach CornerTechniqueswhats-the-best-way-to-groove-mid-pace-topspin-using-a-robot-like-newgy
Nathanhab asked 5 years ago

I was using Newgy 540 for 15 minutes & was in the groove, thinking I was super. But when I then played with a real person, I realized my timing & trajectory was way off. What’s the best way to position the robot, to get a “realistic” warmup before I play with a real player?
Thank you

Hi Nathan,

I can totally understand what you mean, practice with a robot can be helpful in certain areas to groove technique and and get your shot going. However as the ball placement and timing from a robot is always the same you don’t have to adjust as you said it’s not very realistic, so I think it’s important to get the robot playing the ball to different positions so you are moving and adjusting to the balls as you have to when against a real player.

Also I would suggest not only playing against topspin balls but set up the robot to play backspin to you and practice some open ups as well which requires good timing and some adjustments of the bat angle. But again I think variation is the key because in practice with real players and in matches this is usually what makes the game harder when the ball is changing spin and speed all the time. So try not to be to static when playing with a robot and playing in the same spot against the same type off ball which can be easy to do.

Hope that helps you out!
