Counterattack with forehand topspin
Hi Dan and Tom!
I have been playing with DHS Hurricane 3 neo for a few months now. I was playing with Tenergy 05 previously. I would like to know the correct technique to counter loop slow and spiny loops and powerful loops respectively with forehand.
I’ll be grateful for your reply!
Hi Sweetiele
Firstly welcome to the Academy! Ok so the first thing to think about with the forehand counter is to keep your body weight forward and the bat slightly above the ball, especially against the slow spiny loops. You can see these points demonstrated here at the start of our forehand counter video- https://tabletennisdailyacademy.com/videos/forehand-counter-topspin/
You’ll need to adjust your bat angle accordingly for the spin, so if there is a lot of spin you need to close the angle more and get right on top of the ball on contact. For the less spiny balls with more speed you can open the bat face slightly, both of these shots should still be taken at the top of the bounce for your timing point.
How are you finding the Hurricane compared to The Tenergy for these shots?
Hope those tips help and definitely be sure to check out our forehand counter video where we go into detail and break down this shot!
Thanks for the reply! This is some valuable advice! You have done very well by coming up with Table tennis daily academy.
The new plastic ball has made counterattacking a bit easier now because there is less spin on the ball. It’s a bit more difficult to counterattack with Hurricane than with Tenergy. A lot of my topspins are going long or out both while spinning backspin and topspin. But having said that, I feel that I can a hit a lot harder with more spin with Hurricane.
No Problem at all, thanks we hope it’s a big help to many players around the world who want to improve!
Yeah it makes sense, probably adjusting to the tacky topsheet and the bat angle will take some time but with practice on the points I mentioned I’m sure you’ll master it!
