Hey,
I am a novice table tennis player. Play since a year and recently joined a club. I play with a stiga all round classic bat. On both sides I play with a rubber Friendship Super 729 FX. This rubber should be sticky and allow a lot of spin on the ball. However, I have the impression that this is not the case. Which rubber would you recommend to me at the next switch? What rubber do you play with? I myself would tend to choose a rubber with a medium hard sponge and not a soft sponge.

I want to add that I have conservative style. I like to keep the ball in the game by playing deeply and using the speed of the opponent’s ball.

Thank you.

Hi Ivan,

Sounds like you have the right idea to suit your game, if you are a more controlled and spin player you need a rubber which is not too fast and has a good grip which will allow you to make the most of your strengths.

It actually seems to me that I have a fairly similar style and rubber choice to you, I currently use Stiga Genesis medium 2.0 on both sides which is not as fast as some other attacking rubbers but has fantastic control and has a really grippy top sheet which gives amazing spin and a pretty hard sponge too, it could be worth giving that a try for your style as I feel that it could suit you well.

If you feel this could be too fast for you perhaps try the sponge try it with a thinner sponge or in the soft version, which is actually still pretty hard despite the name. The other option could be Hurricane 3 which is definitely slower but again is very spinny and has a extremely tacky surface with a very hard sponge.
