Forehand push vs. backhand push
I notice myself that I mostly use the forehand push, especially on serve receive. I find it easier to keep the ball lower and to control it with a forehand push and I feel more ready to open up with a forehand when doing so. I believe that I possibly use the forehand push 60-70% of the time instead of the backhand one. Any thoughts on this, is the forehand push usually the better choice?
Hi Martin,
I wouldn’t say this is a problem or that the forehand push is usually the better choice either. Everyone is different and has a unique stlye as well as strengths and weaknesses, so you need to find what works for you.
The only thing I would say is perhaps really try working on your backhand push and having more confidence to keep the ball low. That way you’ll stop people finding that weakness in gour game.
But using more forehand pushes is not a problem in itself ,as long as your not getting caught out of position with it.
Thanks, this is a good point. I probably should spend more time on the backhand push, it has probably been a little neglected lately. I have always strived for a balanced game and developing both wings, and remember that spending some extra time on my backhand offensive strokes really paid off. Haha, should probably spend more time on the backhand middle too, which is a weak point for a taller guy 😉
