service-starting-position
Hi Tom and Dan. Is there an obvious advantage/disadvantage in your minds about starting the service from an open position versus closed? I’m used to the open from tennis and it’s comfortable and I can easily transfer my weight, plus it’s easy to get in the rally position. It does seem easier to have some disguise from the closed, but I’m unsure it matters that much. Your thoughts? Thanks.
Hi Slicepong, When you say and open or closed position do you mean with your body square to the table or more side on? I think a lot of it is personal preference but wanted to double check we are talking about the same thing
Tom, I mean open like facing the table as if I’m about to hit an open stance tennis forehand as opposed to a closed stance where back is almost facing the table. It’s not a huge deal for me, but I was wondering why you never see the open version. Is it simply for disguise?
Ok Got you, Yes most people like to be more closed body position as it’s easier to disguise the spin but it is quite a personal thing and it’s important you are comfortable with being able to flow into the next shot and recover after the serve etc. So stick with how you are comfortable unless it makes it very difficult to develop and improve your serves and the disguise of course.
