reverse-backhand-serve
Hey Nomad,
What would you like to know about backhand serves?
Hi Tom
Sorry for the confusion. I tried to get in touch using my tablet but it cut out on a few occasions.
After looking at your video I tried some ‘dry run’ practice in the mirror (without a table). After quite few misses I discovered that if I could time the toss of the ball with the back swing I could create quite a bit of backspin and side spin using the wrist and body rotation (the ball spun viciously for some time on the carpet after hitting the floor)
If the ball was tossed higher would there be a change of timing and also is there a slight pause on the forward action (similar to that of the topspin dive) before contact with the ball.
I realise that once you get used to a service action timing will become natural but as you mentioned in the video it may take some time and practice.
Finally, is there a forehand reverse spin serve and, if so, what would be the benefits and disadvantages?
Thanks again for your help Tom
Alex
Hi Alex, no problem at all. When you say backhand reverse do you mean the reverse pendulum serve? If the ball is thrown higher there will be a change in the timing and a longer wait as you mentioned. It definitely takes time to work on the perfect timing and contact on all these serves. If you send us a video of you doing the action then I could give you some feedback, that’s probably a good way at the moment to make sure you are getting the key points correct.
Cheers, Tom
Thanks Tom
Will do
