Sorry, I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to answer down here or above .
Thanks for the fast reply, really appreciated that. 😉 (sorry for my late reply, was trying to sort out the video thing)
So yes, what had shocked me is how upright I am – I tried to adjust this after seeing myself, but it’s a little ingrained. I am pretty sure it messes up my forehand open up as it is part of why my shot becomes so vertical and not forward enough.
RE: backhand open up
Great tip about hinging to the stomach for the backhand open up – wondered why my hand kept drifting sideways even though I was trying to stop that happening. Yes, I will focus more on the leg usage during practice – I know I always do this during fixture games because it really secures the ball coming on the table.
RE: forehand open up
Regarding the forehand open up, that’s a great tip about breaking the shot into two parts – I think it will help me have less drift in my technique. I didn’t quite understand what you mean about “shot is being generated by only the arm” – it looked to me like my torso was turning 90 degrees through the shot!? I did notice that my legs weren’t bending and rising much – is that what you meant?
RE: forehand loop
Yes, absolutely need to lower my weight – I feel like there isn’t enough forward weight shift with the shot, perhaps lowering my centre of gravity will allow that to improve. I really want to make this shot stronger, more spinny with some sidespin. Perhaps sending a future video with another angle will be helpful. What angle would you suggest (from behind or in front or 45degrees?)
RE: Backhand loop/drive
I got it working now – here is the link:
