backhand-topspin
Hi Dan & Tom
https://youtube.com/shorts/Hti…
I am trying to develop more confidence in opening up a rally with a backhand topspin against a backspin ball and found your video very useful. My normal backhand is more of a flat drive more than topspin so I am attempting to develop more topspin in my stroke to help develop more control and variation in direction.I have attached a link to a short video and having studied it myself I made some of the following bservations..
While I am bending my legs slightly and getting under the ball I believe I could get more spin if my elbow was raised and my wrist bent more inwards. I think this would mean that the bat would contact the ball slightly lower on the bat and so use stay longer of the surface of the rubber to grip and create spin. Timing could be tricky but I found it to be effective in creating heavier spin especially further away from the table when I took the ball just after the top of the bounce. The speed and timing of the wrist I think is one of the key factors in adding topspin and control of direction (as is the footwork)
I will be be practising variation is direction and speed so will keep you updated. In the meantime I look forward to your comments.

Hey Alex! The video here is listed as private so I can’t view it, if you make it unlisted and post the link again I’ll be able to have a look. But great to hear you found the video helpful and what you said above is correct, especially about the wrist and bending low to get down to the ball. this will really help you get more spin and quality on the ball. keep working on this timing and use of the wrist because it will help keep helping you to improve the spin and consistency! Dan 🙂
Thanks Dan
Sorry about the video..I will take another video and send it for your attention.

Alex
