Coach CornerCreating a good sidespin-topspin serve
darion888 asked 2 years ago

Hello guys,
I’ve been recently experimenting with side-topspin serve. I want to maximise my spin. Will quicker body movement and quicker acceleration from the wrist help me to achieve this effect?

Hey! Yes the wrist is definitely key in the serve in getting more spin for sure. Make sure you have a fairly loose and relaxed grip as well which will mean you can get more acceleration. Also it will help you contact the ball softer and brush up it to generate better spin to. The body rotation will help, but it also means it’s harder to read the spin for your opponents as the movement and contact is quicker!

Lastly I would say with the grip really try to focus on your first finger and thumb and try to imagine as you contact the ball the almost squeeze together this will help in getting bite and contact on the ball for more spin!
