Coach CornerTacticsDealing with balls to the crossover point
Sweetiele asked 6 years ago

Hey Dan and Tom,
After watching a few recordings of my matches, I feel that I don’t handle balls directed at my crossover point and balls thereafter particularly well. What would be a good strategy to deal with such balls and how can I become better at playing rallies? Many thanks!

Hey Sweetiele,

Yes it’s always a tricky position to play from the cross over and something many players have to work on constantly to get confident at playing well from the crossover. I certainly remember a few points from one of the matches you sent in a couple of times you were caught in the crossover. A great way to improve this is doing a couple of training drills that we have on the Academy, firstly the anywhere to backhand exercise and also have a look at the how to exchange from backhand to forehand video. Both of these focus on the aspects of recovery and preparation for shots and will help you improve your crossover point.

Hope this helps 🙂
