Coach CornerServe and ReceiveElbow position on pendulum serve
Slicepong asked 6 years ago

Hi guys. I find it very uncomfortable to finish with a high elbow position. I also seem to get a better whip with a natural elbow finish. I stop my elbow and try to get a whip with my wrist and forearm. Is this the optimum way to hit the pendulum serve? Thanks.

Hey Slicepong,

Good question. If you watch from 1.22 https://tabletennisdailyacademy.com/videos/sidespin-serve/ we talk about the disadvantages of having the elbow to high. You want to avoid having it to high as this will give away to your opponent what spin you are generating on the serve. Like you say it’s quite uncomfortable to. Find the optimum that works for you. This means you can generate backspin or topspin with good deception. Use a little bit of body and rotation as your contact the ball this will give you a bit more momentum. Hope this helps. If you’re able to submit a video of yourself serving, myself or Tom can analyse it 🙂
