finishing-the-forehand
Hi Tom and Dan, hope you’re both well. Tom, I really enjoyed your kinetic chain Q-vid. You emphasize leaning on the shot, moving into the ball, especially the forehand. I realized I was hardly doing this, taking the brush concept too far. You need to brush forward, otherwise it’s almost impossible to hit a heavy ball. Heavy is good; it makes blocking and attacking very difficult, and it means my follow through is 3-9″ more in front than if you just brush. My question is at the very end of the chain-the hand/wrist. Do you consciously snap the forearm for more power/spin? I usually concentrate on the index finger by tightening on contact; the wrist seems to snap a bit on its own if I’m relaxed by a natural whipping action if I use my body properly. Also, what do you think of moving the front leg back a bit if there’s time to increase leverage? Thanks.
Hi Slicepong, glad you enjoyed the kinetic chain video! Moving into the shot is very important in generating more power and quality for sure. Yes I definitely think if you can try to consciously snap the forearm it helps, as long as you are quite relaxed. Definitely also using the front leg to add to the weight transfer is good too as long as you don’t over rotate like I mention in the video 🙂
