Coach CornerVideo Requestsfitness suggestions
Emil Seidler asked 1 year ago

Hi guys, i just started playing again after a long break and i am really on fire to improve and learn all the different masterclasses you provide. unfortunately i really struggle on keeping always low and playing good shots. My condition isn´t in good shape and i try to add some fitness routine to my almost daily table tennis training. Could you recommend some exercises, that help playing table tennis like wall sitting or squats?

Hey Emil! That’s great to hear and we’re gald we can help you in your journey to improvement! Have a look at the fitness section on videos here on the Academy where we have a few videos on some speed work, we will be adding more there in the future.

Other than that, lots of body weight training can help, so as you mentioned squats or jumping squats, lunges and wall sitting are all really good! Also core exercises like sit ups and stomach crunches are great because the core is very important in table tennis. I also think for just general overall fitness that running is of course good, just slow and steady and of course with all these drills small and regular amounts is better than to much too quickly.

The last thing is to try to do things similar to table tennis movements, so for example lunges with a rotation to the side, doing a side lunge or a squat jump with some shadow play of your shots.

Hope this helps and any other questions on this just let us know 🙂
