Coach CornerMatch playFlat Balls or Low topspin Balls in table tennis
Gabriel Kozakevych asked 1 week ago

Hi i have a question how can i generally Return flat Balls or Low topspin Balls that are very fast and Low. For example i am generally a very good blocking player but i struggle to return flat Balls or Low topspin Balls that are fast and Low i Just try to Punch in the ball but this Kind of ball seems to Go Into the net or to high back no matter what i do. And also If try to counter topspin It does not have enough lift to clear the net and the ball is just coming into the net. So do you habe maybe a Idea what i should do against this because i face These Kind of Balls sometimes in the Match and i Just can Not Return the well. Maybe its possible somehow to counter topspin this with a short Stroke and my technique before was Just Not this good and also my distance to the table was wrong but maybe you could give me a more clear answer to this ?

The best shot against these flat shots is a short topspin stroke but you need to make sure to brush the ball a bit extra because when the ball is very flat and low the margin is lower over the net and it almost has the feeling sometimes that the ball can go down. So you need to add a bit of extra spin to have the safety on the shot.
